Anyi County and Wanli District lie northwest of Nanchang city. Both areas feature picturesque old villages that seem untouched by industrialization. However, that impression is not entirely correct. In the early 1970s, during one of China's largest social and economic experiments, this remote region of Jiangxi was not overlooked, for a while at least.
