Moscow, Russia's capital, has nicknames like 'First Throne,' as the first capital of the Russian state, and 'Golden Dome,' for the golden domes of its churches. Since the Middle Ages, it's been known as the 'Third Rome.' Orthodox monk Philotheus first called it that in 1523-1524, writing to the Duke of Moscow: 'Two Romes have fallen, the third stands, and there will be no fourth.'
