Description
Caishiji is on the east bank of the Yangtze River in western Ma'anshan City, Anhui Province, China. Renamed from Niuzhuji during the Three Kingdoms period, it has been a vital river defense since ancient times. In 1161, Southern Song general Yu Yunwen defeated Jin forces here in the Battle of Caishiji. Legends claim Tang poet Li Bai drowned while drunkenly trying to catch the moon's reflection. Mourners inscribed poems on nearby cliffs, prompting Ming writer Mei Zhihuan's satirical verse: "Scratching the soil by the quarrying river, Li Bai's name is immortal!"
