Forlì's location in Italy has been inhabited since the Paleolithic era, with Monte Poggiolo artifacts dated to 800,000 years ago. In 2010, a 4,000-year-old prehistoric necropolis was discovered during new prison construction, confirming early stable settlement. Originating as Roman Forum Livii around 188 BC, founded by Gaius Livius Salinatore, the city celebrated 2,200 years of history in 2012.
