Known historically as Baling and Yuezhou, it offers a glimpse into the city atmosphere from above. Yueyang is a provincial sub-central city and the second largest economy in Hunan, serving as an important regional center in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. It was among the first batch of open cities along the Yangtze River designated by the State Council and is part of the Hunan Free Trade Zone. The city was founded in 505 BC.
